Contract Opportunity - Systems Administrator (Scientific IT) | Cambridge | Onsite | Outside IR35
A leading research site in Cambridge is seeking a short-term contractor (2–3 months) to install, manage, and maintain critical on-prem infrastructure supporting Bioinformatics, Cheminformatics, and Computational Science teams.
Starting in March, you will lead the deployment of newly delivered hardware (including multiple GPU servers) and ensure the environment is fully operational for scientific users.
Key responsibilities:
* Install and configure GPU servers (NVIDIA drivers, CUDA) and scientific software (e.g., Schrödinger, Revvity, SLURM, Linux)
* Administer on-prem servers, networking, and hybrid cloud infrastructure
* Support computational research environments and licensed scientific platforms
* Collaborate with DevOps and global IT/Security
* Maintain performance, security, backups, and system reliability
What we're looking for:
Strong Linux and Windows Server administration
Systems Administration / Scientific IT experience
Enterprise networking knowledge (DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls)
Experience supporting research, biotech, or pharma environments
Scripting skills (Bash, PowerShell, Python) highly beneficial
Onsite in Cambridge for the duration
Start: Early March
