Contract Manager / Senior Engineer – Ground Investigation
Location: UK (office-based with flexible working)
Salary: Up to £40,000-£50,000 + paid overtime (DOE)

Our client is a specialist ground investigation contractor looking to appoint a Contract Manager / Senior Engineer with solid experience in the ground investigation sector. This is a great opportunity to take ownership of multiple projects, work closely with a friendly, supportive team, and continue developing your technical and commercial skills.
You’ll join a small team of engineering geologists, project managers and support staff, in a role that is predominantly office-based with flexibility to work from home by agreement.
The Role
You will manage several ground investigation contracts from award through to completion. Projects range from small investigations lasting a few days through to larger schemes involving multiple crews and values up to around £100k.
Key responsibilities include:
* Receiving tender information from the bid team and understanding commercial and budget constraints.
* Managing projects from award to completion, including programming, resourcing, procurement and liaison with suppliers and clients.
* Preparing Construction Phase health and safety plans and all documentation required for site works.
* Helping to set projects up on site and ensuring field staff clearly understand scope and requirements.
* Managing and communicating with investigation teams during fieldwork to ensure technical, commercial, quality and safety standards are met.
* Overseeing factual reporting from field data processing through to final report issue.
* Managing key post-fieldwork milestones (draft logs, reports, lab testing schedules, valuations, applications and invoicing).
* Using company financial control systems to monitor budgets and project performance.
Wider Responsibilities
* Ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and legislation, including Eurocode 7 (EC7), BS5930:2015, BS1377 and others as required.
* Providing mentoring and on-site training for engineers.
* Offering technical guidance and advice to clients and colleagues.
What You’ll Bring
* Demonstrable experience in the ground investigation sector, including site supervision, contract management and project delivery.
* Strong technical skills in soils/rock logging, report writing and compliance with relevant standards.
* Good IT skills, ideally including geotechnical databases (Openground experience preferred but not essential).
* Commercial awareness and experience managing budgets and the commercial life cycle of ground investigation projects.
* Strong understanding of site health & safety requirements, including CDM Regulations.
* Motivated, enthusiastic and driven, with a genuine passion for engineering geology and high-quality delivery.
* Full UK driving licence.
