About the Role

Key details:

* Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm, 32.5 hours per week + Term-time only
* Wage: £7.55 per hour
* Location: Watlington Road, Old Harlow, Essex, CM17 0DX
* Apprenticeship Standard: Level 3 Teaching Assistant
* Duration: 16 months

Overview of the role:

The Teaching Assistant (TA) apprenticeship role is designed to support the educational development of pupils by providing targeted assistance in the classroom. Apprentices will work alongside qualified teachers to enhance pupil learning, particularly for those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This role involves delivering one-on-one support, facilitating group activities, and contributing to a positive learning environment, while gaining practical experience and training in educational practices.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our Key Stage 1 team at Harlowbury Primary School. The successful candidate will support the educational development of pupils in Years 1 and 2, focusing on enhancing learning experiences for those with diverse needs, including pupils with SEND, ASD, and EAL.


Key responsibilities

* Supporting Learning: Assist the classroom teacher in delivering high-quality lessons and activities; provide one-on-one and small group support to pupils; facilitate the inclusion of all pupils in classroom activities.
* Behaviour Management: Help maintain a positive and productive classroom environment; implement strategies to support pupils in managing their emotions and behaviours.
* Communication: Foster open communication with pupils, parents, and staff; prepare and maintain educational resources and materials for lessons.
* Monitoring Progress: Assist in assessing and recording pupils\' progress; provide feedback to the teacher on individual and group performance; support the implementation of individual learning plans for pupils with additional needs.
* Professional Development: Participate in training and professional development opportunities; collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and contribute to the development of the Key Stage 1 curriculum.


Apprenticeship Summary

* You will work towards your Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification across a total duration of 16 months.
* Training provider: LMP Group
* All online/remote learning, no classroom or college day release
* An allocated tutor will support you throughout the apprenticeship


About the Candidate

Skills & Personal Qualities Required:

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to support diverse learning needs, including those with SEND
* Basic understanding of child development and educational practices
* Competence in classroom management and behavior support
* Proficiency in basic literacy and numeracy
* Good IT skills
* Empathy and patience in working with pupils
* Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations
* Initiative and the ability to work independently
* Resilience in managing challenges in the classroom
* A genuine passion for education and helping pupils succeed

Qualifications required:

* GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4) essential
* GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 4) essential


Apprenticeship Overview

During this teaching assistant apprenticeship you will promote self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem which will play an integral part to pupils’ wellbeing. You will become an essential part in the learning environment for the classroom teacher and pupils. Working to ensure pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum and expand their knowledge. TAs play a crucial role in supporting teachers and pupils. Your work can have a significant impact on the children's learning experiences, helping them to succeed academically and personally.

* Milestone 1: Keeping children safe in Education – KCSIE Policy, child protection, safeguarding awareness, health, safety and wellbeing legislation
* Milestone 2: Professional Standards and Personal Accountability – Relationships and Role Modelling, CPD and Personal development
* Milestone 3: Child Development and Behaviours – Child Development Practitioners, stages of development, Behaviour Management
* Milestone 4: Curriculum and Technology – School ICT Systems, using technology, National Curriculum key Stages
* Milestone 5: Learning and Assessment Strategies – Assessment procedures, feedback techniques, SEND strategies and partnership working
* Milestone 6: Prep for End Point Assessment
