Principal Pharmacist -Clinical Commisioning

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Clinical Commissioning Pharmacy team at our trust which is a tertiary care centre for a variety of specialist conditions and rare diseases such as Amyloidosis, Haemophilia and Lysosomal Storage Disorders. Working closely with other members of the clinical pharmacy team, the post holder will develop processes and systems to support the medicines commissioning agenda, resource and financial planning for the introduction of new drugs within the ICS, and for the appropriate and cost- effective use of high-cost drugs.

Potential candidates will have extensive experience with medicines commissioning, including reimbursable medicines and Patient Access Schemes. They will be confident collaborating with and influencing stakeholders at a senior level, such as ICS leads, clinicians, Contracts and Commissioning Managers.You will have had experience managing a team, providing strategic leadership as well as mentoring and developing your team. You will need a meticulous level of attention to detail and an ability to deliver against key targets and objectives.


Main duties of the job

Oversight of accurate data collation and communication to Contracts and commissioners to ensure appropriate financial reimbursement for tariff excluded medicines

Ensuring all Patient Access Schemes for high-cost medicines are acted upon appropriately, ensuring eligible patients are identified and discounts received.

Working collaboratively with the clinical teams to deliver therapeutic switch schemes in a timely manner e.g., introduction of biosimilars.

Proposing and implementing other medicines savings initiatives

Managing a team of pharmacists/pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants to deliver on the medicines commissioning agenda.

Collaborate with the ICS for financial and resource planning for new medicines

Person Specification


Education

* oMPharm degree or equivalent
* oMembership of the GPhC
* oMember of the Royal College of Pharmacy or equivalent professional body or SIG Pharmaceutical Society


Experience

* oDemonstrated knowledge of medicines legislation and guidance.
* oDemonstrated knowledge of principles of commissioning e.g. contracts, High-Cost Drug Commissioning
* oDemonstrated expert knowledge covering Pharmacy commissioning requirements


Skills and aptitudes

* Demonstrated ability to identify problems, analyse root cause and propose solutions for complex problems
* Demonstrated Project Management Skills
* Able to act as a "role model"
* Able to communicate complex, contentious and sensitive information effectively using clear written and spoken English
