Job title: Industrial Placement
Location: Teesside (Billingham/Stockton)
We are seeking 4 highly motivated Chemistry students for different placement opportunities within the Catalyst Technologies Business to commence in July 2026. As one of 4 placement students, you will join our research R&D team based at the Chilton & Stockton sites (Billingham/Stockton-on-Tees) and be involved in one of our coveted research projects.
In these placements you will gain experience working in a world class R&D facility whilst receiving support for your own personal and professional development. Full training will be given to assist you in successfully undertaking your responsibilities. The team of scientists at our sites are always open to teach you a new skill or offer their help and expertise.
In R&D no two days are alike, therefore a “typical day” will vary depending on the project. In general, it will involve the planning/designing of your experiments, performing the experiment, and analysing the results. You will be able to learn new characterisation techniques and/or use pieces of equipment you might be un-familiar with, broadening your knowledge of the chemical sciences. You will have the opportunity to be involved in the processes of catalyst development, from synthesis to characterisation to testing.
There will be meetings centred around EHS and project work alongside world class training sessions. You will read scientific papers, write reports, and create presentations about your work and improve not only your experimental and technical knowledge but also your scientific presentation skills.

The role:
1. Carry out experiments and interpret results of work which you have been assigned
2. Prepare reports/summaries on experimental work undertaken, taking into account the project objectives
3. Communicate results to the project team and other stakeholders
4. Maintain excellent EHS standards at all times
5. Contribute ideas and suggestions for improvements to the project
Key skills/qualifications that will help you succeed in this role:
6. Currently studying a degree in Chemistry
7. Ability to effectively manage your own time
8. Strong attention to detail during experimental work
9. Positive and Passionate, a strong team player
