Change Commercial Manager (Major Project)

We are seeking a highly experienced Change Commercial Manager to support a major infrastructure project, focusing on a high-value and complex Compensation Event. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role requiring deep commercial acumen and forensic attention to detail.
Role Overview
You will take ownership of a single, significant compensation event, leading the full commercial assessment process. This includes detailed interrogation of design information, validation of quantities, and robust evaluation of cost and programme impacts to ensure a defensible and well-substantiated position.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the end-to-end management of a major compensation event under contract conditions (e.g. NEC or similar)
* Undertake detailed design review across all issued documentation (drawings, specifications, revisions)
* Carry out or validate measurement and quantification of works to ensure accuracy and completeness
* Build, interrogate, and challenge cost submissions using first principles where required
* Assess programme impacts in collaboration with planning teams
* Identify commercial risks, opportunities, and areas of exposure
* Prepare and present clear, structured commercial narratives to support entitlement
* Engage with key stakeholders, including client, consultants, and delivery teams
Candidate Requirements
* Extensive experience in commercial/change management on large-scale construction or infrastructure projects
* Proven track record managing high-value compensation events or claims
* Strong background in measurement and cost build-up, with the ability to work from design information
* Excellent understanding of standard forms of contract (NEC preferred)
* Ability to operate autonomously and provide strategic commercial direction
* Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
Desirable Experience
* Background in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, or major civil engineering
* Experience working on complex, design-intensive projects
* Familiarity with programme analysis and delay/impact assessment
