Deputy Head Teacher – Bournemouth role at The WhiteTrees Group. Location: Bournemouth. Contract: Full time, permanent. Salary: £47,500 - £55,000.
Main Purpose of the Role: The Deputy Headteacher will lead and promote an educational vision aligned with The White Trees Group strategic direction and the Building Brighter Futures Framework. They will support the development of conditions that enable pupils and teachers to achieve effective learning and ensure the school’s aims and objectives are implemented in accordance with governing body policies and the organisational vision. The Deputy Headteacher provides effective leadership and management to secure the daily operation and reputation of the school site and to deliver high-quality holistic education in a nurturing learning environment.
The Deputy Headteacher is accountable to the Headteacher and the Executive Headteacher and, with the Senior Leadership Team, is responsible for evaluating the school’s performance, driving continuous improvement, raising standards, ensuring equality of opportunity, monitoring policies and practices, and efficiently using resources to meet the school’s and organisation’s aims.
Duties And Responsibilities
* Leadership and Management: Provide leadership and management to all staff, maintain a safe working and living environment, be a positive role model, maintain a regular presence at the school site, and ensure appraisal and supervision schedules are undertaken.
* Support the creation and implementation of the School Evaluation Framework (SEF) and School Improvement Plan (SIP), and take responsibility for delegated aspects.
* Ensure the team makes progress toward SIP priorities identified in appraisal meetings and that targets are met.
* Support and challenge all staff to achieve school priorities; inform parents/carers/professionals about curriculum targets, pupil attainment/progress, and improvement processes.
* Develop staff to maximise skills and ensure clear roles and responsibilities; manage the school site effectively; maintain a visible presence to support a positive ethos and behaviour.
* Maintain expectations for behaviour, lead by example, and ensure appropriate authority over pupils; lead teams of adults and morale management.
* Support the vision, ethos, and policies of the school and promote high achievement; ensure key pupil information (RA, destination journeys, etc.) is kept up to date; manage pupil data before start of White Trees journey; coordinate timetables and communicate changes to staff and parents as needed.
* Lead daily handovers and debriefs; attend required meetings.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
* Designated safeguarding lead; ensure pupil safety and timely updating of risk assessments per policies and procedures.
* Rectify shortfalls in risk operation systems; prioritise safeguarding of pupils and staff; align policies with regulatory standards; ensure health and safety standards are robust and easy to follow.

* Establish a safe, stimulating environment grounded in mutual respect; set goals that stretch all pupils; model positive attitudes and behaviour; maintain a learning environment aligned with Health & Safety policy.
Progress and Outcomes
* Drive planning accuracy for attainment, progress, and outcomes; tailor planning to pupils’ prior knowledge; ensure timely reporting and recording of attainment; meet assessment deadlines (academic and socio-emotional); promote literacy, articulation, and standard English across subjects.
Adapt Teaching Environment
* Develop effective relationships to assess pupil needs dynamically.
Professional Development and Performance
* Attend CPD days; review and pursue professional development; participate in appraisal; respond to feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
Wider Professional Responsibilities
* Contribute to school life and ethos; build professional relationships; drive teaching improvement through professional development; communicate with parents about pupil achievements and wellbeing; share in pupil success; support school communications; monitor school systems; update Designated Teacher and SENCO on pupil needs for PEP and annual reviews; ensure compliance with school policies.
Other Responsibilities
* Complete Designated Safeguarding Lead Level 3 training; foster good relationships with parents and the wider community; support personal/professional development; manage school vehicles as needed; undertake other duties assigned by senior leadership; participate in Keeping In Touch days as pre-arranged.

* A good undergraduate degree
* QTS
Experience
* Minimum 10 years teaching experience with demonstrated excellence
* Demonstrated leadership experience
* Extensive experience working with pupils with SEMH/SEND
* Experience of being a DSL
