The Role

Are you passionate about providing specialised care for older adults? The purpose of this role is to assist the trained nurse in the delivery of a range of patient care procedures and to provide basic nursing care to the patient.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a or a NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

We are seeking a Health care support worker to work within Older People and Stroke services within the Vale of Leven Hospital to join our dynamic team focused on serving the healthcare needs of older people
The shift pattern for this post is between Monday to Sunday

Key Responsibilities

Assists with the nursing care of the patient under the supervision of a trained nurse. This will include all basic care including the reception, admission, transfer and discharge of the patient according to procedure
Ensure patients receive the care and assistance required/prescribed with fluid and nutritional intake
Observes and reports any change in the condition of the patient and communicates this verbally to the nurse in charge
Assists the patient unable to self care with personal hygiene and dressing, adhering to all manual handling procedures and policies
Carries out and assists with minor investigatory procedures eg: Urinalysis, Faecal Occult Blood testing and Urine collections as required. Reports all findings to the trained nurse
Participates and assists in the updating and completion of accurate patient documentation as necessary eg: fluid charts, waterflow charts and also files documents appropriately when required
Is responsible for the cleaning and tidying of clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards, excluding cupboards for the storage of controlled drugs and medicines and reports any defects and areas of concern to the nurse in charge
Maintains stock of adequate supplies of central and clinical stores excluding medicines
Assists with the safe custody of patient's personal belongings in accordance with organisational policy
To comply with all Health and Safety Legislation and policies with particular regard to COSHH, Fire, Infection Control and Manual Handling

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

No formal qualification required
Good standard of education
Good verbal communication
Good team worker

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
