HLTA – Physical Literacy
Full-Time | September Start | Cranborne, Dorset
Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a specialist SEMH secondary school in Cranborne to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Physical Literacy for a September start.
This is a unique opportunity to support pupils aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs through physical activity, engagement, and movement-based learning. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting positive wellbeing, confidence, resilience, and participation across the school.
About the Role
As a Physical Literacy HLTA, you will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to deliver engaging physical activities that support students' emotional regulation, social development, and overall wellbeing. You will lead small groups, deliver targeted interventions, and encourage pupils to develop positive relationships with physical activity.
The role is ideal for candidates with a background in sports coaching, PE, youth work, outdoor education, or SEN support.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver physical literacy sessions and structured activities to individuals and small groups
* Support pupils in developing confidence, resilience, teamwork, and self-esteem
* Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation through physical activity
* Work alongside teachers to support learning and engagement across the curriculum
* Contribute to the development of personalised interventions and support plans
* Build positive and professional relationships with pupils, staff, and families
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
* HLTA status or relevant experience within a similar role
* Experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEN or SEMH settings
* A passion for sport, physical education, wellbeing, or outdoor learning
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
* A patient, resilient, and proactive approach
* A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle due to the school's rural location
