About the Electoral Commission
The Electoral Commission is the UK’s independent body overseeing elections and regulating political finance. Everything we do is about ensuring trust, participation, and integrity in the democratic process.
As we enter a bold new chapter under our five-year Corporate Plan, we are increasing our workforce and transforming how we plan and deliver core services. This post plays a central role in that journey.
About The Role
The Senior Communications Officer (Campaigns and Corporate Identity (Forms)) is responsible for creating and managing voter registration forms, letters, and related materials to ensure they are clear, accurate, and legally compliant. The role involves leading projects, working with internal teams and external partners like designers and printers, and making sure everything is delivered on time and within budget. A key part of the job is promoting the use of plain English and maintaining the Electoral Commission’s visual identity.
What you’ll be doing
The Senior Communications Officer (Campaigns and Corporate Identity – Forms) will lead the creation and revision of voter registration forms, letters, and associated materials, ensuring they are clear, accurate, legally compliant, and aligned with the Electoral Commission’s visual identity. They will ensure materials are delivered on time and within budget, while also creating internal process documentation to support inclusive communication practices. This role is significant to the Commission as it underpins the delivery of accessible and legally sound voter communications, directly supporting its democratic mission. For voters, the work ensures that registration materials are easy to understand and complete, helping to remove barriers to participation. The role offers meaningful exposure to national communications work, opportunities for professional development, and recognition for contributing to democratic engagement. Joining this team means being part of a purpose-driven group that plays a key role in shaping how the public engages with democracy.
What we’re looking for
This role would suit someone who is highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable managing multiple tasks independently while maintaining strong working relationships. The ideal candidate will have experience in a communications or information management role and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences. Success in this role depends on strong project management capabilities, including planning, delivery, and evaluation, as well as experience working with external suppliers such as designers, printers, and translators. A person with a personable and collaborative nature, who enjoys working autonomously and takes full ownership of their responsibilities, would thrive here. The ability to balance precision with creativity, and to communicate clearly and effectively, will be key to excelling in this position.
Why work for us?
We offer a strong total reward package, including:
* Flexible working and hybrid model (40% office minimum)
* 28 rising to 30 days annual leave + bank holidays
* £312 working from home allowance (tax-free)
* Ongoing learning and development opportunities
* Ride2Work, eye care vouchers and more
