As a Secondary Cover Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in maintaining continuity of learning during the short-term absence of a class teacher. Your primary responsibility will be to supervise classes, ensure students are on task with pre-set work, and manage classroom behaviour effectively. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with young people, possess strong communication skills, and are seeking valuable experience in secondary school environments without the full responsibilities of a teaching role.
Responsibilities:
* Supervising secondary school students (typically Year 7 – 11, potentially some Sixth Form) during the absence of the class teacher.
* Ensuring students remain focused and engaged with the work provided by the absent teacher. Implementing the school’s behaviour policies to maintain a positive and productive learning atmosphere.
* Responding to general queries from students and providing appropriate support.
* Liaising with relevant school staff regarding any issues or concerns that arise.
* Maintaining a professional and consistent approach to classroom management.
* No planning or marking required – your focus is purely on supervision!
Requirements:
* Previous experience working in a Secondary School as a Cover Supervisor or Teacher.
* Strong presence and excellent classroom management skills, with the ability to command respect and maintain order.
* Confidence in front of groups of students.
* Superb communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with students and staff.
* A proactive, adaptable, and resilient approach to different school environments and situations.
* The ability to follow instructions and pre-set work effectively.
* Reliability, punctuality, and a professional demeanour.
* An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through us.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
