Overview

1 x 30 hours per week. The role of the Lead ADHD nurse is exciting and varied. You will help build on the improvements that have been made over recent years in assessment and treatment. Our ADHD Assessment Pathway is something we are truly proud of with good waiting times and above the national average. You will have a key role in representing Barnsley CAMHS in strategic discussions with SYICB and at national/regional forums. You will have the ambition and passion to drive improvements for the Neurodevelopmental Services across South Yorkshire.

Main duties of the job

* You will lead our ADHD pathway and Non-Medical Prescribing workforce. You will work as an integral part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and Leadership Team where ADHD diagnosis is considered, and recommendations made.
* You will be competent in prescribing medications in this arena but will be supported to develop this skill if necessary.
* You will be able to make good relationships with professionals and families/carers and recognise the importance of multi-agency working in complex situations.
* You will be a forward thinking, innovative practitioner who has a passion for providing the best care possible for children and young people.
* The successful candidate will be a confident, autonomous, experienced practitioner who enjoys teaching and working with practitioners to advance their skills in ADHD and lead our expanding Non-Medical Prescribing team.

Job description — Job responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

* The post holder has a dual role: to manage and lead on the professional development and provision of supervision to nursing staff and mental health practitioners in CAMHS, in line with service and trust objectives and in partnership with relevant staff.
* They will provide highly specialist expert clinical intervention to partner services, agencies and vulnerable children and young people with mental health and Neuro Developmental Needs.
* They will take a strategic and leadership role in achieving the aims of the service including actively driving and shaping the Neuro Developmental and mental health pathways to ensure the highest standard of care.
* Leading on services consolidation as well as expansion in line with service and trust objectives and in partnership with the General Manager and wider managerial and clinical leadership team.
* Provide professional leadership, advice and managerial supervision to nursing staff within CAMHS and, where appropriate, Mental Health Practitioners also external agencies.
* Provide strategic nursing input at a senior level across Barnsley CAMHS, ensuring effective advice to the senior management and clinical team.
* Provide expert CAMHS consultation, assessment and intervention, effectively identifying and diagnosing the cause of emotional and behavioural problems in children within Barnsley CAMHS.

The postholder will be responsible for a caseload aligned to their area of specialist practice. Take on a strategic lead on the development of nursing and mental health led pathways for vulnerable children and young people. Be responsible for leading and researching the effectiveness of practice development and the advancement of care within CAMHS, specifically in relation to vulnerable children including Looked After Children and those with Neuro Developmental Needs.

The post holder is expected to contribute to the body of knowledge and develop practice in the specialist area at a national level, through publications, conference presentations and participation in seminars. This requires academic standards at least at masters level. The post holder is expected to work with the senior leadership team to drive the development of nurse led pathways across Barnsley CAMHS including Trainee Nurse Associate roles. The post holder will have a proven track record in achieving the highest standards in the management of people and services and in the delivery of complex CAMHS interventions.

The post holder will liaise with medical and adult mental health professionals internally and externally and across a range of settings and work autonomously within professional practice and Trust guidelines. The postholder will contribute to policy and service development, contribute to research, service evaluation and audit for the service and contribute to the training of the clinical team and others.

This job description is an outline of the main duties of the post. The postholder will be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as directed. The content of this post will be reviewed in consultation with the postholder when necessary and in line with the service developments.

* To develop and implement effective multiagency working reflecting the changing demands and thresholds of the service.

* To promote developmental opportunities for others within the team and to foster multidisciplinary working.
* To access training and demonstrate learning appropriate to area of specialism.
* To communicate complex and sensitive information to children, young people, parents, carers, professionals and other agencies/services as appropriate.
* To use resources effectively to meet financial targets and ensure staff recruitment and retention meets service needs.
* To ensure clinical governance requirements are met and participate in Trust clinical and research governance activities as appropriate.
* To develop the annual service line and team job planning and staff performance management systems to ensure KPI targets are met.
* To manage performance and enforce where required.
* To have up-to-date clinical knowledge of mental health problems including vulnerable groups (Looked After Children, Neuro Developmental and trauma).
* To identify client need and mobilise resources; formulate treatment plans; identify safeguarding concerns and implement safeguarding policies.
* To safeguard C&YP, families and the public; to adhere to safeguarding directives and information governance.
* To collaborate with voluntary and statutory agencies; chair and manage multi-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings.
* To undertake serious incident investigations as required and promote SWYPFT standards.

Person Specification

Essential

* Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post with satisfactory sickness record.
* Experience of specialist mental health assessment and treatment with children and young people and families.
* Competent in working within a mental health field; competent in assessment and intervention with child and adolescent patients.
* Evidence of conducting audit/research; experience in CAMHS with vulnerable groups; safeguarding and risk assessment; teaching; clinical leadership; recruitment and staff supervision; development of specialist services; working with high-risk and complex cases.

Desirable

* ADOS, SAVRY or other post-qualification training; policy development; budget monitoring; gender-specific needs; business planning.

Personal Attributes Essential

* Excellent communication, professional, reliable, flexible; able to prioritise, negotiate and manage conflict; resilient under pressure; team player and able to travel around the Trust.

Qualifications Essential

* Degree-level nursing qualification with CAMHS experience; current NMC registration; Masters-level or equivalent post-qualifying training; non-medical prescriber.

Desirable

* Teaching, mentorship qualifications or experience.

Special Knowledge/Skills Essential

* Clinical and managerial expertise in CAMHS; good organisational and interpersonal skills; leadership, recruitment, and safeguarding capabilities; ability to engage with service users, carers and professionals; ability to develop and sustain inter-professional relationships.

Desirable

* Experience of NHS systems and procedures; incident reporting/investigation; budget and performance management.
