Locum consultant radiologist with msk special interest

Hereford
Wye Valley NHS Trust
Radiology consultant
Posted: 17 April
Offer description

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Radiologist with MSK interest post at the Wye Valley NHS Trust (WVT).

A full time (10 PA) Consultant post is being advertised. This is an additional post, approved to meet additional demand. The post is intended to be whole‑time, but applications would also be considered from candidates wishing to work part‑time for personal or domestic reasons.

The successful candidate will join the existing establishment of 18 Consultant Radiologists in providing a comprehensive radiology service to the population of Herefordshire Health District and a catchment population from mid‑Wales and referrals from surrounding counties of Shropshire, Worcestershire and Gwent (total population 230,000).

The post holder should have broad radiology experience with the skills expected from a fully trained and experienced general radiologist, as well as a specialised interest with experience in MSK radiology.

The post holder will be expected to take part in departmental audit and clinical governance issues, provide training and education to medical and other departmental staff as required, and participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.

The post holder will also be required to participate in the on‑call rota, which is currently 1 in 14.

Main duties of the job

The job plan and proposed timetable will be organised to meet the needs of the department and will be by mutual agreement. The job plan will be for 10 programmed activities (PA’s) to include 1.5 PAs for Core SPA (appraisal, revalidation, job planning, CPD and core department meetings) plus an additional 1 PA of SPA to develop departmental priorities which can then be normally built into the job plan in subsequent years. Unused SPA time would be expected to be used for direct clinical care.

A degree of flexibility will be expected in relation to departmental duties, particularly when colleagues are absent on leave to maintain service commitments.

Supporting activity time should be used for teaching, training, education, CPD, audit, appraisal revalidation, administration, research and service development – evidence will be expected to ensure this time is being used appropriately.

The job plan will be finalised by mutual agreement.

About us

Wye Valley NHS Trust is a member of an NHS Foundation Group with South Warwickshire NHS FT, the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Located on the border with Wales in the shadow of the Black Mountains, we provide acute and community services across Herefordshire and into parts of Powys and run Hereford County Hospital and the community hospitals in Bromyard, Leominster and Ross‑on‑Wye.

Worcestershire is our neighbouring county. The post holder will be required to travel between sites.

We are a progressive and forward‑looking trust with ambitious plans to improve quality and integrate patient pathways through close collaborative working with our partners to deliver the quality of care we'd want for our family and friends.

More than 3,500 people work for the Trust – they tell us it's a great place to work, blending the busyness of a DGH with the benefits of working in a beautiful rural and unspoilt county like Herefordshire.

We can offer a great work‑life balance and have a fine tradition of working with staff to help them achieve their full potential.

Our values – Care, Accountability, Respect and Excellence – are at the heart of all we do. We believe in providing the right care in the right place at the right time, all the time.
