Job Overview
Salary - £31,942 to £33,898. Fully site based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. 18-month fixed term contract, full-time (37 hours per week). Closing date: Monday 15 June 2026. UKCEH is looking for a Molecular Ecology Research Assistant to support laboratory and field work within our Molecular Ecology research group.
Responsibilities
* Prepare sampling equipment and undertake fieldwork.
* Process laboratory samples: sample weighing, DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, next-generation sequencing.
* Assist in data analysis.
* Disseminate information and results (assist with report writing and academic publications).
* Support project leads with stakeholder engagement.
Qualifications
* BSc (2:1 or above) in environmental sciences or similar.
* Working experience in a molecular ecology or biology laboratory.
* Organised and methodical approach; understanding of sample management and health & safety practices.
* Excellent interpersonal and time-management skills; able to adapt to changing priorities.
* Strong interest in environmental research.
Desirable
* At least 1 year experience in DNA extraction and PCR techniques.
* Comfortable working in the field and with a range of sample types (e.g., rivers, lakes, agricultural fields).
* Full UK driving licence.
