Technical Advisor – Monitoring and Data Systems Team (32406)
Join us at the Environment Agency, where we manage crucial environmental monitoring systems and datasets, supporting a multidisciplinary team that enhances aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem health.
The role combines data analysis, system maintenance, and user support across the Agency’s entire portfolio, with a core focus on Water Quality but also on Fish, Biology, Ecology, and Water Quantity monitoring.
Responsibilities
* Set up and manage user accounts across the Agency’s monitoring systems.
* Support users and resolve issues, particularly during the transition to the new “My Environment” application.
* Update, improve, and maintain datasets for the monitoring platforms.
* Respond to internal and external data requests.
* Contribute to system improvement and upgrade projects.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience working with large, complex datasets.
* Willingness to develop and learn new technical skills, applying them across monitoring data and systems.
* Motivated, organised, friendly, and helpful with a keen eye for detail, comfortable working in a dispersed team.
* Proactive problem‑solving mindset and enjoyment of tackling challenges.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex technical information to technical and non‑technical audiences.
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others, and provide excellent customer service.
* Desirable: experience managing environmental monitoring data systems.
* Desirable: familiarity with PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online, and R.
* Desirable: working knowledge of water quality monitoring.
Additional Information
Work location is flexible; a base at one of our offices across England is required.
We offer hybrid home/office working with occasional travel for meetings.
Interviews will be via MS Teams toward the end of December/beginning of January.
An apprenticeship is available for the successful candidate.
