Accountancy Recruit is partnering with a group construction business, 30m T/O, in the recruitment of a Financial Controller based in Basildon. Working closely with the Managing Director and Operations the ideal candidate will have experience of working in an entrepreneurial, fast paced, scaling up business environment, who will make decisions and take ownership to grow the Finance team and build robust financial controls and reporting processes, whilst ensuring sound transactional processes to facilitate accurate month end reporting. Key Responsibilities Build, support, mentor and lead a dynamic finance team. Take overall responsibility for day-to-day financial management, controls, and reporting using Sage 200 and reporting to the Finance Director and MD. Oversee cash flow management, ensuring strong working capital controls and timely financial visibility. Prepare monthly management accounts, forecasts, and budgets to support key decision making. Manage year-end processes including audit preparation, statutory accounts, and corporation tax compliance. Ensure best-practice financial controls are embedded across the business, including payments, payroll, and procurement. Provide financial insight and support the Directors and operational teams, highlighting key trends, risks, and opportunities. Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team to improve efficiency and capability. Monitor project financial performance, liaising with project managers to maintain profitability and margin control. Implement and maintain financial systems and processes to keep pace with the growth of the business. Requirements & Skills Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or Qualified by Experience. Demonstrable experience in financial control, cash flow management, and reporting. Prior experience in the construction industry or a project-based environment is highly desirable. Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards, tax, and compliance requirements. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels. Commercially minded, hands-on, and able to thrive in a growing, fast-paced environment. Remuneration Salary: £70-80,000 pa Holidays: 25 days plus bank holidays Hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 5.00 pm Pension: Auto enrolment Parking onsite Office based - Basildon
