Overview
We are seeking to expand our team of freshwater ecologists within AtkinsRéalis' Water Management Consultancy. The role involves influencing environmental outcomes for freshwater systems at the project level and beyond, and delivering river and wetland environmental assessments and supporting the restoration and enhancement of aquatic systems.
Responsibilities
* Deliver river and wetland environmental assessments and support the restoration and enhancement of aquatic systems.
* Produce tangible improvements within river catchments throughout the UK and overseas.
* Integrate and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and bring technical knowledge and influence to bear in securing the best outcomes for the environment and clients.
* Provide ecological input to projects including field surveys, technical reporting and catchment science projects with a focus on river and wetland function, habitat design, management and restoration, hydroecology, ecological impact assessment, Water Framework Directive compliance and Biodiversity Net Gain.
* Maintain excellent relationships with other professionals to provide a consistent and integrated service to clients.
* Support the team with winning work from internal and external clients.
* Develop technical skills through Continuing Professional Development.
* Support the national aquatic ecology team in delivering wide range of catchment science projects.
About You
* A degree in a relevant discipline and a post‑graduate qualification desirable, with a focus on freshwater ecology or a related discipline.
* Excellent understanding of aquatic ecology assessment procedures and relevant UK and EU nature conservation legislation.
* Experience undertaking river and wetland habitat and species assessments and reporting, ideally in a regulatory or commercial consultancy environment.
* Willingness to work towards securing chartership if not already chartered, with support and mentorship from chartered colleagues.
* Numerate, literate and familiar with IT and software appropriate to the tasks undertaken (such as GIS, Excel and other Microsoft products).
* Highly motivated, proactive and focused on achieving and delivering technical excellence.
* Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate effectively.
* Flexible, hands‑on, proactive, able to work independently as well as part of a wider team and comfortable applying skills in a commercial environment.
Security clearance
This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If necessary, the vetting process will be discussed at interview and may require proof of residency in the UK of five years or longer.
