I’ve partnered with an exciting HealthTech start-up on a mission to revolutionise healthcare through technology. Following investment, they are now looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join the team and help build their core backend systems. Role Overview:
As a Staff Backend Engineer, you’ll be one of the first key hires on a new backend team. You will play a critical role in shaping the backend architecture, scaling systems, and setting engineering standards. Whether you want to move into engineering leadership or continue developing your technical expertise with a focus on architecture, the role offers a clear path in both directions.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance backend systems.
* Establish and enforce best practices for backend development and system architecture.
* Provide solutions to complex technical challenges and continuously improve the product and systems.
* Stay up to date with emerging technologies and apply them to build future-proof, efficient systems.
Tech Stack:
* Primary language: Kotlin (experience with Java, Go, or similar multithreaded backend languages is welcome)
* Database: PostgreSQL
* Cloud Platforms: AWS or GCP
* Containers & Orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes
* CI/CD for continuous integration and deployment
What We’re Looking For:
* 7+ years of backend engineering experience, with a strong background in multithreaded backend languages (Kotlin, Java, Go, Rust, etc.).
* Experience working in the HealthTech space
* Strong experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
* Proficient in system design, API development, and microservices architecture.
* Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), containerisation (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
* Experience in start-up environments is a plus, as the role will require you to be adaptable and work in a fast-paced, evolving setting.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
* A passion for building scalable, secure, and maintainable systems.

Interview Process:
The interview process will consist of the following stages:
1. Intro Call: A brief conversation to discuss your background and the role in more detail.
2. Take Home Task or Live Coding (Your Choice): You’ll complete a technical exercise to demonstrate your skills and approach to solving backend challenges.
3. Systems Design Interview: A whiteboarding exercise to assess your ability to design scalable, robust backend systems.
4. Final Interview with Co-Founders: An in-depth conversation to ensure you’re a great fit for the team and the company’s culture.
