We are seeking a Vessel Controller to join our team in Hull on a permanent basis. This role involves working as part of the Port Operations team to ensure ships are loaded/unloaded safely and efficiently, maximizing capacity and fuel savings while providing high customer service levels.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in port operations, adherence to processes, and handling H&S issues, with the ability to adapt resources and possess basic administrative skills. The position is based in Hull, working a fixed shift pattern.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervise vessel operations effectively.
2. Maintain the highest safety and security standards.
3. Manage, report, and investigate incidents, accidents, and damages promptly via DP World HSEAS.
4. Conduct regular H&S and operational audits in collaboration with Training, H&S Co-Ordinator, and PDMs.
5. Support PDMs in reviewing operations for continuous improvement.
6. Liaise with vessel officers on loading plans, hazardous freight segregation, vessel maintenance, and housekeeping.
7. Coordinate with Port Duty Managers and Freight Planners during preloading meetings.
8. Hold operational huddles and communicate issues to staff.
9. Organize vessel labor changes at short notice, ensuring staff competence.
10. Communicate any operational issues affecting freight capacity to relevant parties promptly.
11. Ensure vessel staff are trained and competent.
12. Coordinate terminal tasks after vessel operations, including housekeeping.
13. Perform other duties as required by the company.
14. Prioritize safety for oneself and others.
15. Serve as the point of contact for vessel issues or requirements.
Ideal Candidate:
* Knowledge of port duties such as Ro Ro Tractors, Reachstackers, Forklifts, Ramp Control, Lashing, Mooring, and machinery operation.
* Understanding of P&O Ferries procedures and safe work systems.
* Strong communication skills.
* Basic IT proficiency.
* Organizational skills with proper record-keeping.
* Familiarity with company policies and procedures.
* Ability to motivate teams.
* Full clean driving license.
