Casual Outreach Worker

This post will be based between the Housing,Outreach and Support Team (HOST) and Edge of Care Team (EOC) as a Casual Outreach Worker. Both team managers meet regularly to discuss referrals and triage to the appropriate team so the successful applicant must be flexible to work with a wide range of families and individuals.

This work will include evening and weekends but staff will always have access to an on-call manager in emergencies.

Please note this role is a Zero hour contract with an hourly rate from £17.38 p/h to £18.16 p/h

About the role

Targeted support - provides intensive assistance aimed at promoting inclusion across family, social, educational, and housing aspects.
We can provide timely, holistic outreach support to children and families as well as to care leavers. This might mean meeting with a young person or family members individually or together and delivering packages of support either in the home or at community settings including educational settings. We conduct unannounced visits for families in need.

We also support with respite practical support and support such as school pick up and drop off and evening routines.

Edge of Care - our primary and most explicit aim is to keep children and families together where it is safe to do so.
We achieve this by offering specialised outreach support designed to give respite to families who need it and repair relationships within the home. We aim to prevent children and young people from entering local authority care unnecessarily, creating an in house service that is trauma informed and effective for longer term outcomes for the family.

Responsibilities:

2. To liaise with the HOST / EOC manager, the young person's Social Worker/Personal Advisor and other professionals to agree a tailored outreach support package for each matched referral
3. Agree with actions and outcomes in an initial meeting and follow these objectives throughout the period of time working with the family or individual
4. Provide agreed outreach support services and record contact for each outreach session
5. Completing risk and needs assessments and raise all safeguarding concerns.

About you

We are looking for applicants with experience in providing support to vulnerable families and young people, especially those who display challenging behaviours. The role necessitates flexibility for evening and weekend work as it is not a standard 9-to-5 position, although some daytime hours will be required. This flexibility is essential for providing cover when the core full-time team is at capacity and for occasional participation in collaborative working initiatives.

6. Commitment to the protection and safeguarding of young people at risk of abuse or harm to identify and record any safeguarding issues in accordance with the Achieving for Children’s Safeguarding procedures.
7. Experience of lone working as the lead professional. We will provide specific training but experience of working alone and examples will be an essential part of this work.
8. Experience of working with young people who display challenging behaviour
9. Knowledge and understanding of the life skills needed to live independently and experience in delivering these to young people
10. Ability to work as part of an effective, flexible and supportive team and willing to work evenings and weekends
