About the Role

At The Urban Fermentery, we craft small-batch, high-quality fermented foods and drinks, supplying both our own brand and private-label products for leading retailers. As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to lead our production team and help drive operational excellence.

This is a hands-on supervisory role suited to someone who leads from the front, sets high standards, and motivates a small team to consistently deliver safe, high-quality products while improving GMP, housekeeping, efficiency, yield, and waste reduction.

You will work closely with Operations and Technical teams to ensure production runs safely, efficiently, and in line with BRC, food safety, and quality standards.

The role operates on 10-hour shifts, 4 days a week, every second week, offering a strong work–life balance.

Key Responsibilities

* Leading, supervising, and motivating a small production team to achieve daily production targets safely and efficiently
* Role-modelling excellent GMP, hygiene, housekeeping, PPE, and food safety behaviours at all times
* Driving a strong "Clean as You Go" and 5S culture across production and ancillary areas
* Monitoring production performance, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing actions to improve yield, waste reduction, and line efficiency
* Ensuring all quality checks are completed accurately (weights, seals, codes, packaging integrity) and standards are consistently met
* Identifying, escalating, and managing food safety, quality, and health & safety issues in line with company procedures
* Supporting the Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring records, checks, and controls are completed correctly and on time
* Supporting audits (BRC, customer, internal) and leading corrective and preventative actions where required
* Conducting basic fault-finding on equipment, escalating engineering issues when necessary
* Ensuring equipment cleaning, validation, and hygiene standards are maintained
* Leading short interval control reviews and daily communications to drive accountability and improvement
* Coaching, training, and developing team members to improve skills, engagement, and performance
* Bringing energy, ownership, and a continuous improvement mindset to the role

What You'll Need to Succeed

* Previous supervisory or team leader experience within a food manufacturing environment (essential)
* Strong understanding of food safety, GMP, HACCP, and BRC standards
* Proven ability to lead by example and positively influence team behaviour and standards
* Experience driving improvements in housekeeping, efficiency, waste reduction, and yield
* Strong communication and organisational skills
* High attention to detail and a commitment to quality and compliance
* A proactive, problem-solving approach with the confidence to challenge poor practices constructively
* Reliability, flexibility, and a hands-on attitude

Pay & Benefits

* £15.00 per hour (dependent on experience)
* 10-hour shifts, 4 days a week, every second week (excellent work–life balance)
* Opportunity to grow with a fast-developing food & drink business
* Staff discount on fermented drinks and food products
* Free on-site parking
* Be part of a small, passionate team driving innovation in the fermentation industry
