Purpose:
Responsible for leading, developing, and managing the sustainability plan aligned with the England Golf Strategy 2025-2030, focusing on education and influence on sustainability.

* SMT – embed sustainability across all teams.
* Development & Membership (RMs & CCSOs) – communication & support.
* Commercial Manager – support planning & development.
* Data & Insight Manager – support planning & development.
* Communication team – support campaigns & engagement.
* Unified counties, Unions & Associations – communication & promotion.
* Golf clubs – communication with workforce & volunteers.
External:
* GB&I sustainability group – stakeholder engagement.
* The R&A – align sustainability planning & messaging.
* Sport England – link to funding cycle.
* Relevant EG Partners – engagement on communication & advocacy.
* Member organizations like BIGGA, GCMA – workforce advocacy.
* Other stakeholders – as per plan.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
* Lead and implement the England Golf sustainability plan 2025-2030.
* Deliver sustainability campaigns aligned with the plan, working with communications.
* Collaborate with the R&A on sustainability projects.
* Engage with BASIS, aligning principles with the sustainability plan.
* Act as an ambassador for England Golf, promoting sustainability.
* Engage with government, Sport England, and relevant bodies on sustainability issues, especially water resilience.
* Oversee carbon reduction efforts, including events, with support from consultants.
* Work with the National Golf Centre team to implement sustainable practices.
* Guide golf clubs on environmental issues like water, energy, biodiversity.
* Integrate environmental, social, and economic elements of the plan.
* Support the annual sustainability awards.
* Explore commercial opportunities for sustainability.
* Manage resources to assess and aim for net-zero carbon footprint.
* Develop sustainability insights through data collection and trend analysis.
* Implement greener workplace practices with HR and admin teams.
* Produce and cascade the annual sustainability operational and financial plan.
* Perform other duties as required.
Dimensions/Resources:
Staff: 1 full-time staff member, sustainability budget.
Administrative: External stakeholder meetings, lead role in GB&I sustainability group, coordinate internal sustainability group, present at meetings/workshops.
Location:
England Golf Headquarters, Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, with hybrid working options. Expected on-site presence 2-3 days every two weeks.
Qualifications & Skills:
* Degree or relevant qualification.
* Knowledge of sustainability sector and practices.
* Understanding of facility management and UK environmental legislation.
* Experience in business, sport, government, or NGO sectors.
* Relationship-building and influencing skills.
* Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
* Computer literacy in spreadsheets, Word, PowerPoint.
* Proven ability to inspire and motivate others.
* Supportive and friendly attitude.
* Representation skills for external contexts.
* Experience delivering sustainability programs.
* Interest in sustainability, environmental science, or management.
* Budget management experience.
* Leisure or sports industry experience preferred.
* Valid driver’s license required.
* Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), IEMA or CIWM membership advantageous.
* Knowledge of golf facility management or leisure/recreation beneficial.
