About The Division
The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland's water and wastewater challenges. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations, preventing urban flooding, and improving the health of our rivers and coastal environments. Our multi‑disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies to outline and detailed design.
Overview Of The Role
We are looking for an Engineer Manager to lead the delivery of our non‑infra programme of works. You will build on the work already established within our Thames Water Consultancy Framework and work with our technical discipline leads to ensure our technical delivery performance meets both client and internal expectations. Your focus will be on:
* Steering the right structure and people to meet technical demands
* Implementing systems and processes that deliver project outcomes aligned to client, framework, and internal governance
* Driving a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
* Maintaining a detailed understanding of the client’s business plan objectives and engaging with them continuously to support technical solutions
The role will evolve with the framework and your own development, offering the chance to create future‑proofed services, mentor emerging talent, and integrate digital technology innovations.
Candidate specification
We are seeking a driven individual with a passion for finding solutions that meet environmental and cost drivers while delivering excellent customer outputs.
Essential
* Chartered engineer with relevant technical degree
* Track record of engineering technical leadership
* Significant experience in development and delivery of feasibility and outline design solutions within the UK water sector
* Aptitude for innovation and driving efficiency
* Experience in mentoring people and teams
* Ability to support bids, fee proposals or offers of service
* Strong communication skills with experience in effective collaboration across internal multidisciplinary teams and client teams
* Willingness to travel regularly to Thames Water offices
Desirable
* Strong commercial awareness, delivering cost‑effective solutions within time and cost constraints
* Understanding of key water sector treatment and sustainability needs
* Understanding of drivers for water and wastewater treatment investment in England and Wales
* Excellent technical report‑writing skills using concise English
