Consultant in Acute Medicine
The successful applicant will form an expanded team of 14 whole time equivalent Consultants in Acute Medicine taking it to full establishment and will be based at East Surrey Hospital. The Acute Medicine team and service have been developed significantly over the last 10 years and its onwards development is in line with RCP guidance across the trust. The department is now looking to develop its services in short stay medicine and sub specialty interests. Opportunities for special interests are available within the job plan including ambulatory care, point of care ultrasound and teaching and in additional specialty areas such Stroke, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Rheumatology and Elderly care and Frailty services. These posts are a substantive appointment and we would welcome applications from those who are post CCT in Acute Medicine. The applicant would be assigned a senior Consultant mentor to support their development.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for applicants with a wide experience in Acute and General Medicine who have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional skills to lead service developments in the Trust. We are keen to expand on our provision of bedside focused acute medical ultrasound with three in house FAMUS supervisors and FUSIC mentors and 1 BSE accredited supervisor so would welcome candidates with experience or those that are interested to develop this skill or consolidate existing experience. We have currently 3 state of the art Point of Care Ultrasound devices and 1 departmental Echocardiography device in Acute Medicine. We are keen to promote education and learning and provide a good educational experience to trainees and have been as top in the KSS region by Acute Internal Medicine Specialty trainees attached to us in the 2019 GMC Trainee survey. We would welcome those teaching skills and help support applications for honorary teaching posts at our associated medical school.
