Trainee Leakage Engineer – RPS Water Operations Division, Wales
RPS is looking for Trainee Leakage Engineers to join our Water Operations Division in Wales. Positions are available in West, North East, North West and South Wales. This permanent, full‑time role works Monday to Friday 07:00–15:30, with overtime, bonus and benefits, and a company van.
About The Team
The Asset, Surveying and Inspection (AS&I) team delivers industry‑leading services to the UK water industry, supporting water networks, drainage, surveying, leakage consultancy, water resources and efficiency. The team analyse complex data and provide pragmatic solutions, reducing water leakage and preventing flooding and pollution in local communities.
About the Role
You will work flexibly, with weekends, evenings and overtime if required, and will travel to different sites. An outdoor role that operates in all weather conditions is essential.
Your Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose and determine the most appropriate solution to reduce leakage, supporting regulatory targets and delivering a high‑quality service for clients.
* Ensure Health and Safety standards are maintained.
* Achieve KPI targets and reduce leakage within DMA’s.
* Attend excavations requested by Repair & Maintenance to assist leak location.
* Train and mentor assistant Leakage Technicians.
* Handle general administrative tasks such as timesheet submission, vehicle checks and defect reporting.
* Build and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues, contractors and clients.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
* Prior experience in a similar role is desirable but not required – training will be provided.
* Willingness to learn technical skills such as utility tracing, noise logging, step‑testing and leak monitoring.
* Effective under pressure, meeting deadlines while maintaining accuracy and high standards.
* Team player, cooperative, and open to sharing knowledge.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Customer‑focused with the ability to build strong relationships.
* Proficient in quick, accurate reporting of findings.
Qualifications
* Full UK driving licence.
Health and Safety
* May need to move heavy items, including inspection chamber covers.
* Work in all weather, including night work.
* Possible confined space and highway work.
* Mandatory drug and alcohol tests and DBS check required.
