Job Title: Probation Officer
To assess and manage the risk posed by people on probation to protect victims of crime and the public by:
* Providing information and advice to criminal courts, other criminal justice agencies, and partner organizations.
* Supervising individuals on probation, community orders, licenses, and during custodial sentences.
* Contributing to risk management efforts.
* Collaborating with other agencies to prevent crime and support victims and probationers.
In line with PS policies, the job holder must demonstrate a commitment to equality and inclusion, understanding their relevance to the work. The role requires adherence to policies regarding sensitive/confidential information.
Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
* Providing professional advice and assessments, including written reports to courts, the Parole Board, and other agencies.
* Managing offenders assessed at all risk levels, including high and very high risk of serious harm.
* Using computer systems to maintain records and documentation.
* Facilitating referrals and maintaining relationships with relevant agencies to enhance outcomes and reduce reoffending.
* Attending professional meetings and representing the PS at partnership forums such as MAPPA and MARAC.
* Collaborating with colleagues, providing guidance, and supporting Probation Service Officers and staff.
* Providing cover within your team and others as needed.
* Conducting visits to prisons, homes, or other locations as required.
* Delivering and co-leading accredited programs.
* Carrying out mandatory alcohol and drug tests and following medication procedures.
* Performing safeguarding duties in accordance with statutory responsibilities and policies.
* Modeling pro-social behavior and challenging anti-social attitudes.
* Working within the aims and values of PS and HMPPS.
The duties are not exhaustive; additional tasks may be assigned. The role requires confidence in communication skills in English or Welsh (where specified in Wales). During the selection process, behaviors such as Making Effective Decisions, Communicating and Influencing, Working Together, and Changing and Improving will be assessed. Successful candidates must undergo criminal record checks and baseline personnel security checks.
This position is open to UK nationals, Irish nationals, Commonwealth nationals with the right to work in the UK, EU/EEA/Swiss nationals and their family members with settled or pre-settled status under EUSS, and those with limited or indefinite leave to remain who were eligible for EUSS before 31 December 2020. Turkish nationals and certain family members with the right to work in the Civil Service are also eligible.
