We invite you to join our team in the dynamic role for our private maternity Clayton Ward based at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in East Acton, London. You will be motivating and leading our fabulous staff to deliver high quality private care to the women and birthing people on our ward. You will be working alongside the Matron of the Lindo Wing and our private maternity services at the Lindo Wing St.

Mary’s hospital, allowing you to expand and develop your skillset. Your management responsibility will include staff management, sickness management, budget management, service development and ensuring the day to day running of the ward is seamless in line with private patient’s expectations. This is a one year secondment to cover our current Matron in a seconded developmental role, running until March/April 2027. As the current postholder will be leaving shortly, we are seeking to recruit into this role as soon as possible.Main duties of the job- To work with the Director of Nursing and Midwifery for Private Care and the Senior   Management/Operational Team in developing and implementing a strategy to achieve both the Trust’s and private care objectives and ensure that effective governance arrangements are implemented and maintained for the maternity unit.- Develop and lead a maternity recruitment and retention strategy for the Midwifery team in collaboration with the Divisional Human Resource Team. - Strong clinical leadership is required in the management of this group of clients, some with highly complex medical and social problems.

Responsibilities include: Identify and facilitate strategies for the service improvement and potential development initiatives. - Actively participate in the management of all maternity services such as participation in the manager on call rota. - Monitor and manage resources within a defined budget and be responsible for people management including the completion of annual appraisals, sickness management and disciplinary matters.

  - Contribute to our maternity private care feedback sessions and respond to feedback from women, birthing people and their support people. - As Matron for the Clayton Ward, you will be expected to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that robust systems are in place and that continuous quality improvement programmes are used to maintain the high standards of care expected at Imperial College NHS Trust. For both overviews please view the Job Description attachment with the job advert.Person specificationEducation/ qualificationsEssential criteria- Registered Midwife- Evidence of continuing post registration education and development.- Registered Educated to degree level in relevant subject areaDesirable criteria- Has attained or is working towards a management qualification.- Leadership qualification or equivalent experience- Master’s degree in a relevant subject area or working towards thisExperienceEssential criteria- Significant post registration experience in a range of maternity settings.- Have experience of managing a ward or team (at Band 7 level or above)- Managing and developing people.- Managing budgets.- Risk Management – good understanding of the PSIRF model- Managing patient feedback complaints.- Managing safeguarding.Desirable criteria- Project management experience- Patient experience initiatives- Private patient experienceSkills/knowledge/ abilitiesEssential criteria- Clinically competent.- Good understanding of current issues and challenges (regional national) relating to maternity services.- Proven experience in supervision of trained staff.- Proven evidence of leadership in multi-professional teams.- Evidence of applying current research to practice.
