About the Role
The Foundation Subject Lead Teacher is a key leadership role focused on strengthening the quality, consistency and impact of all foundation subjects across the school. You will be responsible for shaping an ambitious and inclusive curriculum that inspires curiosity, creativity and engagement, particularly for learners with diverse SEMH needs. Alongside delivering high‑quality teaching in at least one specialist subject, you will champion the value of foundation subjects in building students’ confidence, wellbeing and cultural capital. Working in close partnership with the Deputy Head (Quality of Education), you will contribute to whole‑school improvement by developing clear accreditation and qualification pathways, ensuring Unit Award Scheme (UAS) provision is well‑coordinated, compliant and meaningful, and supporting colleagues to continually develop their subject knowledge and practice.
In this role, you will:
1. Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of ambitious, accessible and engaging foundation subject curricula.
2. Drive curriculum development across all foundation subjects, modelling best practice and supporting accurate assessment and reporting.
3. Work with senior leaders to develop accreditation routes, qualification pathways and compliant UAS delivery.
4. Build strong, professional relationships that promote engagement, creativity, confidence and wellbeing.
5. Support students with SEMH needs, including autism, to access learning and manage regulation effectively.
6. Champion the school’s ethos, values and cultural capital through subject leadership and whole‑school initiatives.
7. Support and develop colleagues through training, CPD and shared subject expertise.
8. Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, and reporting in line with school policies.
