Description
The Faculty of Creativity and Skills is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking animal science lecturer with vision and drive to collaborate with the existing team in shaping the future of the animal science provision at Coleg Ceredigion.
This role offers an exciting opportunity for a proactive and innovative individual committed to delivering outstanding animal science education from Entry Level to Degree level. Responsibilities include curriculum planning, delivering high-quality learning materials, and working flexibly. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, proactive, and ambitious.
The animal science programs range from Entry Level 3, Level 1, to Level 6, complemented by extracurricular activities and strong tutorial support.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teach, assess, and coordinate programs in Animal Science from Entry Level 3 to Level 6.
2. Serve as a Learning Area Programme Lead (LAP) for one cohort and contribute to departmental management.
3. Support administrative and resource development activities within the area.
4. Engage with industry and develop commercial courses related to Animal Science.
5. Contribute to quality assurance through internal verification.
6. Prepare teaching materials and resources.
7. Conduct assessments for assigned subjects.
8. Ensure classroom and practical facilities meet health, safety, and legislative standards.
9. Collaborate with external stakeholders, including industry bodies and HE institutions.
10. Organize and monitor work placements and the learner experience.
11. Perform additional duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Essential Criteria:
* Relevant degree or equivalent Higher Education qualification.
* Teaching qualification (or obtain a PGCE within 2 years of employment).
* GCSE English and Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Practical/industrial experience in animal sciences.
* Strong literacy and numeracy skills, effective communication at all levels.
* Digital literacy skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
* Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Punctuality and flexibility.
Desirable Criteria:
* Previous teaching experience.
* Business experience in land-based industries.
* Understanding of post-16 education issues.
* Track record of high learner attainment.
* Knowledge of key performance indicators.
* Innovative teaching and learning methods.
* Experience in tracking and monitoring learner performance.
* Experience in pastoral care.
* Valid driving license and ability to drive a college minibus.
* Willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities.
Welsh Language Requirements
* Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 0/1
* Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 0/1
