Role Overview

With a focus on networking, international satellite & fibre methodology and compression & distribution technologies, this position reports to the Senior Director of Distribution Engineering and is critical in monitoring and supporting WBD’s global television distribution infrastructure and Live Events output.


Responsibilities

* Monitoring all of WB Discovery’s channels.
* Managing the necessary switching of transmission systems during normal or emergency conditions to ensure all services remain on the air.
* Responding to all affiliate enquiries and maintaining ongoing communication with customers, keeping them updated with ticket progress.
* Serving as a liaison between support teams and the customer, collaborating across all leadership levels.
* Initiating outage vetting for critical outage situations.
* Managing incident and planned work tickets, ensuring all ticket types are logged, work logs are updated, and routing is handled for resolution.
* Liaising with third‑party fibre, uplink and playout providers during fault investigations.
* Providing written reports on transmission system reliability to various Technology & Operations groups.
* Routinely checking the health of distribution equipment.
* Proactively identifying and addressing potential risks and vulnerabilities in the distribution infrastructure, recommending mitigation strategies.
* Developing corporate oversight and participation in distribution technologies.
* Assisting with training and development of distribution staff members as needed.
* Creating and updating documentation and procedures.
* Implementing, or assisting with implementation of, changes to distribution infrastructure.
* Identifying, adjusting, and establishing new monitors and metrics needs.


Qualifications

* Experience in a broadcast, media, or telecommunications environment.
* In‑depth knowledge of television distribution systems, platforms, and standards.
* Working knowledge of digital baseband signals, SDI, HD‑SDI and ASI for video, PCM, Dolby D and E, and its variants for audio signals, as well as awareness of TCP/IP network concepts including multicast traffic.
* Knowledge and experience with SMPTE 2110.
* Experience with fibre and satellite‑based encoding, and telemetry monitoring and control systems.
* Ability to operate test and analysis equipment such as video waveform monitors, vector scopes, and transport stream analyzers.
* Expertise in troubleshooting and correcting signal quality issues, signal routing, systems integration, and maintenance.
* Working knowledge of MPEG‑2/4 encoding technology, encryption/authorisation technology, and TVRO receive systems.
* Ability to work without supervision, combining initiative with discretion.
* Computer literacy; excellent oral and written communication skills; close attention to detail.
* Availability to work overnight, weekend, holidays, and rotating shifts as a 365/24/7 mission‑critical position.
* Understanding of service level agreements and ability to meet them.


Work Conditions

This position is considered an essential position. Employees in this role are expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergencies, or when access to the workplace may be impeded, unless otherwise instructed by a direct manager.

All working hours and days will be carried out onsite. The role may require independent research, troubleshooting, and resolution of trouble tickets within established service‑level agreements.

Responsibilities include total call ownership, handling irate customers, escalating issues as appropriate, and providing necessary follow‑up before incidents are closed.
