Overview

We are recruiting a fixed‑term Energy Senior Advisor (up to 2 years) with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. You will help regulate the energy sectors to protect people and the environment from emissions and to mitigate and adapt to climate change impacts.
Responding to incidents is a central part of the role. You may be asked to take an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. The team is part of Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation within the Environment & Business Directorate.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Lead or contribute to the definition of standards for the sectors, providing strategic direction and tools to support regulation.
* Provide guidance and training to deliver new duties and promote environmental best practice.
Experience/Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and to encourage consideration of diversity issues in work.
* Technical and regulatory knowledge relevant to the role, including knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
Incidents and Travel
You may be required to take an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support. Some travel may be required.

The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of the Environment & Business Directorate. Our technical experts lead on standards for our sectors and provide guidance, training, and environmental best practice. We use evidence, expertise and innovation to influence policy, legislation and secure resources.
