To provide professional clerical support in respect of Patient Services. A flexible, courteous and friendly approach is expected at all times. Maintenance of confidentiality is essential. We undertake

multi-skilling and job rotation and with appropriate training the successful candidate will be expected to undertake the following duties:

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to process incoming and outgoing calls quickly and politely being able to deal with emergency situations in a calm and responsible way. Telephone duties include management of future, on the day and urgent appointments, booking home visits and ambulances, dealing with test results, and answering general queries including speaking to other Health Care professionals.

Computerised System (SystmOne) for up to 30 Health Professionals. Booking future, on the day and urgent appointments. Issuing of repeat prescriptions, including Repeat Dispensing and Electronic Prescribing (EPS) also dealing with patient's prescription queries. Excellent communication skills are essential for meeting and greeting patients with a required friendly approach and dealing with their queries. Responsibility to ensure that Reception and waiting room areas are kept neat and tidy at all times.

We are a paper light practice however there is still some routine filing and paperwork involved. This includes retrieving and refilling medical records, along with patient's prescriptions whilst always ensuring that strict alphabetical order is adhered to.

Basic IT literacy/computer skills are essential although on the job training will be given. Tasks include precise data entry for patient registrations, change of address and accurate coding into patient's medical records.

Summarising patients paper records on to the computer system following strict practice protocols.

7. General - We are a big, busy, and friendly Practice and the effectiveness of our patient care relies heavily on a team effort and an ethos of working together. However, the successful candidate must also have the ability to use their own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense when responding to patient enquiries and requests. The successful candidate must have the ability to work without direct supervision whilst prioritising their own workload.

The above list represents the general duties of the role, is not exhaustive and may be amended/added to from time to time. Other more specialised duties may be included after suitable periods of training.

Due to the fast-changing nature of the NHS, we have to ensure we adapt in general practice and the job description will inevitably alter over time out of necessity. You will not be asked to undertake anything that is considered beyond your capabilities and training will be provided where necessary.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Recent experience of reception or similar customer focused work (preferably within last 2 years) Recent experience of using PC and Windows based software. Recent experience of team working.
* QualificationsBasic numeracy, spelling, punctuation and grammar
* Demonstrate ability to perform routine clerical tasks. Evidence of excellent verbal communications and front of house skills, demonstrating a courteous, friendly and helpful disposition. Evidence of ability to remain calm under pressure. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of security Understanding of confidentiality. Evidence of working on own initiative and as a team member. Demonstrate ability to be flexible regarding availability. Able to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions and prioritise workload
