Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Programme Manager to play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering high-quality Bowel Cancer Screening Services within our Gastroenterology Department. This is a rewarding, senior clinical leadership role that combines hands-on patient care with strategic service development. You will spend part of your time in direct clinical practice, supporting patients and responding to their needs within the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. The remainder of your role will focus on education, management, and innovation, helping to continuously improve services and outcomes. As Clinical Programme Manager, you will lead the strategic and operational development of the Trust’s Bowel Cancer Screening Services. You will manage and inspire a multidisciplinary team, including clinical nurse specialist screening practitioners (SSPs), allied health professionals, and administrative and management staff within the screening centre. Through strong leadership and collaboration, you will ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred screening pathways. A key element of this role is driving health improvement across Berkshire and surrounding areas. You will lead the development and delivery of public awareness and engagement initiatives aimed at increasing screening uptake, reducing health inequalities, and addressing barriers to access. Working closely with local, regional, and national clinical leads and commissioners, you will ensure robust systems are in place to monitor and track patients throughout the screening pathway, maintaining compliance with national standards and performance targets. This is a cross-site role requiring flexibility and strong organisational skills. Travel will be required to Wexham Park Hospital, Heatherwood Hospital, Royal Berkshire Hospital, and West Berkshire Community Hospital. A full driving licence and access to a car are essential. Main duties of the job Delivery of performance targets for delivering the FIT Screening, Lynch Syndrome Surveillance, Site Check and Surveillance Services within the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Successful clinical staff line management and development. Capacity Planning and Service Development. Financial Management to meet budget. Data analysis, aggregation, and presentation to meet QA and National Office Requirements. Business and contract planning, including management of SLA’s. Cost reduction plan/Cost Improvement Plan management and delivery. Quality Management System and Right Result. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Registered Nurse Management and leadership skills/course. MSC in relevant subject. SSP course. Non-medical prescribing qualification. IRMER course. Experience Essential criteria Post Registration experience Experience in endoscopy unit, colorectal, BCSC or cancer care Staff/team Management experience. Experience of Writing Operational Policies / Protocols and Guidelines to support service development initiatives. Desirable criteria Experience of SSP role at Band 7 or above. Skills Essential criteria Knowledge of clinical governance, risk management, valid consent and withdrawal of consent. Well-developed business planning and marketing skills. Excellent organisational skills and time management skills. Ability to co-ordinate and investigate complaints, including experience of dealing with distressed patients / relatives / staff.
