Purpose of the role
BBC News NI is recruiting a presenter (radio bulletins newsreader) to join our multimedia newsroom. Presenters will write and prepare radio news bulletins, source stories and audio, and broadcast live bulletins on BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Sounds. Bulletins run from 06:30 to midnight, seven days a week, so shifts will be required. The role may also involve contributing and writing stories for the BBC News NI website.
Key responsibilities and impact
* Write concise and accurate radio bulletin stories, with strong editorial judgement under pressure
* Deal with complex editorial and legal issues
* Contribute daily to the production of original journalism by the BBC News NI team
* Present live radio bulletins on BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Sounds and upload bulletins for on-demand services
* Collaborate with the digital team and liaise with the wider newsroom to promote an integrated cross-platform approach
* Be prepared to work across the newsroom in each department
Essential criteria – Your skills and experience
* Strong journalistic skills and a passion for news and current affairs
* Excellent writing skills and a strong grasp of editorial and legal issues
* Experience producing and presenting live radio news bulletins with a strong broadcasting voice
* Good knowledge of politics and current affairs in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and beyond
Desirable but not required
* First-class production skills, sharp news judgement and ability to handle complex editorial issues under pressure
* Ability to produce distinct and impactful journalism that helps audiences understand the news
* Creative storyteller with a network of contacts and ability to persuade people to talk
* In-depth knowledge of current affairs, politics and cultural life, with interest in domestic and foreign news
