This is a hands-on role where the Assistant Buyer will work closely with the Buyer/Warehouse Manager to ensure materials, plant, and services are sourced efficiently, delivered on time, and secured at the best possible value. What Youll Be Doing As an Assistant Buyer, youll be right in the mix: Liaising with Estimators & Project Managers to ensure materials and subcontract packages hit site on time and on budget Supporting the estimating team with supplier pricing at tender stage Working with site teams (via Contracts Managers) to plan ahead and avoid delays Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers (and finding better ones when needed) Negotiating rates, terms, and ensuring best value across all purchases Youll also take ownership of plant and warehouse operations: Sourcing and managing hired and owned plant Tracking usage, condition, and compliance (PAT testing, damage checks, etc.) Maintaining accurate plant registers and booking systems Supporting stock control, stock takes, and disposal of surplus materials Coordinating yard operations, including skip exchanges and deliveries Keeping the warehouse and yard safe, organised, and efficient What Were Looking For Proven experience in a similar Assistant Buyer or procurement role within shopfitting Strong understanding of materials, plant hire, welfare, and waste management Experience working across multiple live projects at once Confident dealing with suppliers, site teams, and internal departments Comfortable handling invoice queries and working with accounts Willingness to be hands-on, including loading/unloading when required
