Victim Liaison Officer Salary: £23.95 p/h ltd Location: East of England Contract Type: Part-time - 22 hours p/w Be a Voice for Victims. Make a Real Difference. We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Victim Liaison Officer to join the Probation Service (PS) and provide vital support to victims of serious crime and their families. You will play a central role in delivering the Victim Contact Scheme (VCS) and Victim Notification Scheme (VNS) —ensuring victims are kept informed, supported, and empowered throughout the offender’s sentence. This is a critical role for someone who combines empathy and professionalism with a deep understanding of trauma-informed practice, risk management, and the criminal justice system. What you’ll be doing As a Victim Liaison Officer, you will: Support victims of crime and their families who are participating in, or being considered for, the statutory VCS or VNS. Liaise regularly with victims and families, offering sensitive, accurate updates on key developments in an offender’s sentence, such as parole decisions, release conditions, or hospital orders. Enable victims to share their views and make representations at critical points in the offender’s journey. Contribute to the assessment and management of offender risk to help protect victims and the public. Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings, ensuring victims' perspectives inform decision-making across criminal justice and support services. Uphold and promote trauma-informed principles, maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and dignity in all communications. What we’re looking for We’re looking for someone who brings both professional knowledge and personal integrity to the role. You will have: Experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds who have experienced a range of social or personal difficulties, including communicating effectively and working in a trauma-informed way. A strong commitment to promoting equality, valuing diversity, and working with diverse communities. Knowledge and understanding of the assessment and management of risk in relation to offenders and safeguarding victims. In-depth understanding of the criminal justice system, including courts, prisons, probation, and the roles of related agencies such as the police and mental health services. The ability to manage sensitive and emotionally charged situations with empathy, clarity, and professionalism.
