Stephen A Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Oxford, in association with Lady Margaret Hall The Faculty of Philosophy, University of Oxford, in association with Lady Margaret Hall, wishes to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Philosophy to cover the teaching and other duties of a permanent postholder during a period of externally-funded research and sabbatical leave. This post is fixed term for the period 1 October 2025 up to 30 September 2026. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake teaching and research in core areas of Philosophy, and to have some research interests in Feminist Philosophy. The candidate must be able to teach core areas of Philosophy, including Feminist Philosophy and Ethics to both graduate and undergraduate students. In addition, the appointed person will conduct research in Philosophy, and will undertake administration for the Faculty and the College including, but not limited to, participating in the annual admissions exercises and acting as assessor for undergraduate and graduate examinations. For the college, the successful candidate must be able to provide introductory undergraduate tutorials (or classes, as appropriate) in General Philosophy (Epistemology, Philosophy of Mind and Metaphysics), and more advanced undergraduate tutorial teaching in Feminist Philosophy, Ethics, and in at least one further subject offered to second and third year undergraduates at Oxford. In addition, they will contribute to general oversight of philosophy teaching within the college, e.g. organising tutorials by other tutors, preparing and marking collections (termly college tests), student feedback, admissions, and pastoral care of undergraduates. The successful candidate should normally have received the degree of PhD or DPhil in Philosophy or a related discipline, or at least have submitted a completed doctoral dissertation for examination, by the advertised closing date for this position. Candidates must have an outstanding research record in Philosophy, appropriate to the stage of their career, with evidence of, or evidence of potential for producing, research in topics of relevance to Feminist Philosophy. They must provide evidence of the ability to provide excellent teaching and must have the ability and willingness to assume pastoral responsibilities associated with undergraduate and graduate teaching, and to act as an assessor at graduate and undergraduate level.
