Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU) within the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The ECU is a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals. The role involves strategic leadership for financial investigations and ensuring compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
This is a hybrid role with flexible working patterns, including job share. Travel across the country for meetings and operational duties may be required. Incident response is a central part of our work, with potential for additional payments. Training and workplace adjustments are available to support you.
Responsibilities
* Lead the ECU, including management of two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, with a focus on leadership, performance and team development.
* Be the strategic lead for managing financial investigations and ensuring obligations under POCA are fulfilled.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) and influence senior-level stakeholders to align with Environment Agency priorities.
* Support the wider organisation by sharing lessons learned, contributing to changes in technical documentation, and advising enforcement officers nationwide.
* Contribute to continual improvements in working practices and the understanding of POCA legislation.
* Be involved in incident response and provide business continuity support as required.
The Team
The Economic Crime Unit comprises the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team, with Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and handles highly serious, complex criminal activity involving organised crime networks.
Experience / Skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Strong understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in:
* Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model
* Effective communication including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders
* Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it
