Deadline: 06/05/2025
Location: Leeds, United Kingdom | Contact: Katie Cameron
Paid opportunity
We are seeking a freelancer with experience in STEM to plan and deliver engaging, accessible, in-person, drop-in STEM activities at the M&S Archive, inspired by the collection.
The M&S Archive in Leeds showcases over 72,000 objects illustrating the story of M&S, from its origins to a leading UK retailer. The collection inspires creativity and curiosity, with an interactive, creative, and playful permanent exhibition suitable for all ages.
Since February 2023, we've offered monthly family-friendly Saturday activities inspired by the collection. We aim to expand this to include diverse STEM activities that are fun, engaging, and accessible, fostering visitor inspiration and connection with the collection.
Activities are held on the second Saturday of each month, from 10 am to 4 pm, with flexible visitor engagement times (15 minutes to an hour). The freelancer will prepare, set up, and clear activities around these times.
Initial dates: 12 July, 11 October, 8 November, and 13 December, with potential for more in 2026. A valid Enhanced DBS certificate is required or willingness to obtain one. Payment setup will be provided, with a fee of £280 per session, covering preparation time.
Materials for visitors will be purchased by the M&S Archive; the freelancer supplies reusable equipment and materials.
To apply by 9 am, Tuesday, 6 May, please include:
* Relevant experience in planning and delivering accessible STEM activities for diverse audiences.
* An example of a STEM workshop suitable for families at the M&S Archive.
* Experience working with heritage collections.
* Experience working with the public.
* Whether you hold an Enhanced DBS certificate.
* Availability for the specified dates.
* Any additional supporting information.
Applicants will be notified by 5 pm, Thursday, 8 May. Interviews are scheduled for Thursday, 15 May. Confirmation of receipt will be sent within two working days. Late applications after 9 am, 6 May, will not be accepted.
The venue features ground-floor, step-free access, automatic wide doors, tiled and carpeted floors, and well-lit public areas with LED lighting.
