Job summary

We are a supportive and collaborative Older People's Community Mental Health Service, seeking a Highly Specialist Applied (. Clinical/Counselling) Psychologist to join us. This role spans the Memory Assessment Service and the Older People's Community Mental Health Team where you will work as part of a network of Clinical Psychologists.

The successful applicant will lead on and deliver psychological assessments, formulations and therapies for older people, families and carers within a CMHT that covers urban and rural areas in York and North Yorkshire while supporting the leadership of the Memory Assessment Service and completing neuropsychological assessments for dementia.

The applied psychologist role is key to the provision of high-quality care for patients, carers and families within our Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP). Applied Psychology is highly valued in the team, Care Group and within the Trust, with good professional support.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide highly specialist psychological assessments, formulation and therapies with individuals, families and teams as part of an MDT approach,according to evidence-based pathways of care and in line with the Trust's commitment to partnership working with families and carers. The role includes direct clinical work, providing consultation, training, and clinical supervision to other team members as well as trainee and assistant psychologists.

As a senior member of the team, the post holder will be expected to demonstrate good leadership skills in supporting MDT colleagues to work psychologically and use person-centred principles. The post holder will be a key member of a compassionate, collective leadership team within the Memory Assessment Service in York. Innovation and engagement in research and development activity is actively encouraged.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

1. Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
2. HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
3. Post doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice - Band 8a
4. Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
5. Trained in care co-ordination
6. Evidence of continuing professional development

7. Registration with BPS

Experience

Essential

8. Working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings
9. Exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care as a care coordinator within the context of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

10. Experience of joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies

Knowledge / Skills

11. Risk assessment and risk management
12. Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
13. Communicate highly complex and highly sensitive information effectively, to a wide range of people
14. Evidence of Leadership skills
