Recruitment Consultant
If you are looking for a recruitment job where you are expected to just hammer the phones, fill the CRM and hope something lands, this is not that.
This is a role for someone who wants to build credibility in a specialist market, develop proper client relationships and make strong money by becoming genuinely good at the job. You will be joining an established recruitment business with a long-standing presence in the market, a strong client base and specialist teams across Construction and Building Services, Driving, Engineering and Hospitality.
The opportunity is not just to fill vacancies. It is to build a desk, become known in your market and create long-term value from the relationships you develop. That means winning business, identifying strong candidates, managing processes properly and learning how to operate as a trusted specialist rather than a transactional recruiter.
James Lewis has been established since 2004 and has grown by building real sector knowledge and long-term client relationships. Depending on your background and strengths, you will join one of the specialist teams with the support, training and structure needed to help you become credible quickly and earn well while doing it.
In Construction and Building Services, the work is broad and commercially strong. The team recruits across main contractors, residential developers, fit out contractors, design consultancies and mechanical and electrical contractors, mainly across London and the Home Counties. Roles range from Quantity Surveyors, Estimators and Design Managers through to Project Managers, Site Managers, Technical Managers, Technical Coordinators, Planners and Mechanical and Electrical Engineers. Typical salary levels sit from around £40,000 to £120,000+, so you are operating in a market where strong delivery and strong relationships translate into serious fees.
What you will be doing
Develop and grow client relationships. You will be working with existing accounts while also identifying and winning new business through calls, meetings and commercial conversations.
Source and engage candidates properly. That will include database searches, job adverts, CV watchdogs, LinkedIn, referrals and direct headhunting where relevant to the market.
Manage recruitment processes from start to finish. Qualify vacancies, screen candidates, produce shortlists, secure interviews, handle feedback and keep processes moving.
Spot opportunities others miss. That could mean pitching a standout candidate into a client without a live role, or opening up a new account through a market conversation.
Build a market around you. Every call, meeting, interview and placement should strengthen your desk, your network and your reputation in the sector.
Work to clear targets and standards. You will be expected to stay on top of activity, outcomes and reporting, while keeping records accurate and up to date.
What they are looking for
They are open to people with or without recruitment experience.
What matters more is mindset. You will need to be commercially minded, resilient, comfortable speaking to people, and motivated by the link between effort and reward. This is a good fit for someone who enjoys sales, handles pressure well, understands that KPIs are part of the job and has the discipline to stay consistent through the ups and downs that come with recruitment.
You should also want more than just a job title. The people who do well here are the ones who want to learn a market, build relationships properly and turn that into long-term progression and earnings.
What you get in return
£35,000 - £45,000 + commission, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, free parking
OTE £65,000 - £90,000
A genuine earning opportunity, with realistic on-target earnings of £65,000 to £90,000.
Ongoing support, training and a clear route to progress within the business.
Newly refurbished offices with a relaxed, enjoyable working environment that feels very different to the more corporate end of the recruitment market.
Additional perks including incentive trips, company events, fresh fruit, Beer O’clock Fridays, monthly Paella Days at the local pub, and annual summer and Christmas parties.
Why this role is worth considering
A lot of recruitment adverts talk about opportunity. This one gives you a clear route into a specialist market, support from people who know it properly, and the chance to build something that pays you well if you are prepared to put the work in.
If you want a recruitment role where you can develop genuine market credibility, make strong money and build a long-term career rather than just chase quick wins, this is worth a conversation
