About this role

The post offers opportunities for the successful applicant to develop skills in meeting the complex needs of clients. You will join a friendly, well-established, integrated learning disability team with a focus on delivering high quality service for adults with learning disabilities. Bolton’s learning disability health service is integrated into the Community Learning Disability Team, combining the learning disability health services with social care. The team is based at Farnworth Town Hall located within the Bolton borough.

You will be an enthusiastic occupational therapist, with a passion to help others and to work with adults who have a learning disability and complex physical health needs and/or behaviours. To manage a caseload, using evidence based, client centred principles to provide specialised assessments, implementation and evaluation of Occupational Therapy intervention. There will be opportunity to bring creative thinking into your work and use skills acquired throughout your previous Occupational Therapy training and experience. The post holder will have access to clinical supervision, peer and managerial support. There is a commitment to providing ongoing training and professional development, including development of skills and leadership opportunities.

In line with The Allied Health Professionals (AHP) Strategy for England, the post holder will support the implementation of policies designed to achieve quality in healthcare including championing diverse and inclusive leadership and improving representation from those with protected characteristics.

Responsibilities

* Provide specialised OT assessment of individuals with learning disabilities referred to the service who may have complex needs which may include additional mental health problems, autism and/or challenging behaviours.
* Participate in capacity assessments alongside members of the MDT, requiring good working knowledge of Mental Capacity Act and use of appropriate Mental Capacity Act (MCA) documentation.
* Be responsible for implementing a range of OT interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, contributing to MDT and assessment.
* Manage a clinical caseload with supervision from a senior OT colleague, whilst retaining professional responsibility for assessment, intervention and discharge.
* Provide specialist OT advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to an individual’s intervention plan.
* Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individuals and provide advice to other professionals on therapy aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
* Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, keeping individuals and their representatives (where appropriate) informed, maintaining confidentiality.
* Be a car driver with access to a car for work duties.
