Job Title: Technician 3
Reports To: School Principal through designated line manager
Responsible For: Maximum of 5 staff
Job Purpose: To provide technical advice, support and assistance in the implementation of the school’s/department's educational programme.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise staff, including managing and allocating duties, and provide on‑the‑job training.
* Provide technical advice and support to teaching staff in developing and manufacturing teaching aids and models.
* Prepare and manage resources for all classes, including setting up, testing, demonstrating and dismantling.
* Collect, clean and store all equipment and materials securely; ensure they are maintained in a ready‑to‑use state and disposed of safely when no longer needed.
* Ensure mandatory or statutory checks of materials and equipment are carried out by qualified personnel.
* Inform line manager of any unsatisfactory or unsafe equipment and arrange repairs or disposal.
* Advise staff on health‑and‑safety matters related to equipment use.
* Assist with administration: maintain manual and/or computerised systems, inventory, ordering, receiving, checking, storing and distributing resources.
* Support staff in ensuring pupil safety, assist with evacuation in emergencies, conduct photocopying and other general tasks.
* Carry out the following additional duties: handling cash for practical materials, assisting with hospitality at meetings and functions, and carrying out minor maintenance repairs across the school.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Five GCSEs (Grades A*–C) including English, Mathematics, and Technology & Design/Engineering, or equivalent higher level qualifications.
* Minimum one year’s experience in a Technology and Design specific area.
* Minimum one year’s experience managing and supervising staff.
* Demonstrable knowledge of Technician 3 requirements and relevant health and safety regulations.
* Effective planning and organisational skills, ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
* Strong people‑management skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
* Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
* Experience working in Technology & Design within a school environment.
* ‘A’ level qualification in Technology & Design/Engineering or equivalent higher level qualification.

Enhanced disclosure of criminal background may be required for regulated activity; the successful candidate will be expected to cover the cost of the certificate.
