We are looking for a meticulous sub-editor to join our growing newsroom. We are a global commercial property news business with dedicated teams working across the UK and Europe, the US, Canada and Australia. The opening has arisen following a period of expansion both in London and globally. The successful candidate would be based in London, where our head office is in Mayfair, but have the opportunity to work on copy filed from our other bureaus across the globe. Working with the chief sub-editor in London and our global teams, ensuring Green Street News’ content is of the highest standard for our subscribers. This includes, but is not limited to: reading and editing copy, fact-checking and ensuring adherence to house style; ensuring good content hygiene, whether that’s individual articles or the wider CMS (eg, tagging; related stories; hyperlinks; updating homepage etc); enriching copy where necessary with images, pull quotes; embeds etc Assisting the chief sub-editor in administering the editorial workflow, including upload and dissemination via email and social platforms Applying, maintaining and updating the house style guide Enforcing editorial standards in a fast-paced news team reporting from multiple global locations Exceptional command of written English A meticulous eye for detail Several years’ experience working as a sub-editor, with ideally some time on business titles An ability to read, edit and produce sparkling copy under the pressure of constant hourly deadlines Experience of, and confidence in, using CMSs. You’ll be quick to learn a system’s functions, limitations and its potential. Working knowledge of WordPress is very desirable Experience of editing for online – including content hygiene, writing for web, SEO and social media Experience of, or willingness to learn, web based data visualisation tools to create infographics, charts and maps Experience of managing a title’s/business’s social media channels desirable but not essential Familiarity with commercial real estate or comparable financial markets is desirable but not essential A collaborative mindset, keen to share in and celebrate the team’s successes A disciplined, controlled approach to tasks, with great work and admin habits A willingness to learn, adapt and take on instruction, with a positive attitude to personal development In addition to a basic salary, this position is eligible for a performance bonus and benefits (subject to eligibility requirements). Total compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to, type of position, location, education level, work experience, and certifications.
