University Hospitals Sussex is looking for a skilled and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join the Clozapine supply service within Worthing Hospital Pharmacy. The service supports the safe and efficient supply of Clozapine to over 850 patients across two counties, working closely with other healthcare professionals to meet patient needs.
Main duties of the job
* Delegate daily dispensing requirements to Pharmacy assistants or technicians, and perform final checks on dispensed Clozapine prior to dispatch to patients.
* Prepare Yumizen NPT Clinic boxes in advance of patient blood tests and medication collection.
* Respond to email and telephone queries in a timely and appropriate manner.
* Work closely with the Senior Pharmacy Technician for the service and provide cover for leave and sickness as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To assist with the service provision to Clozapine patients registered at Worthing Pharmacy, delegating responsibilities to the Pharmacy Technician for Mental Health where appropriate.
* Follow the direction of the Senior Pharmacy Technician – Clozapine Co-Ordinator regarding workflow priorities and service delivery.
* Liaise with the Senior Pharmacy Technician – Clozapine Co-Ordinator regarding dispensing for mental health medicine management units.
* Dispense inpatient, outpatient and TTA prescriptions in accordance with departmental guidelines.
* Assist in the delivery of the medicines management agenda, particularly the “one stop” dispensing scheme to all units/wards.
* Act as an accredited checking technician for the pharmacy department (minimum of 3 hours per week to retain accreditation).
* Liaise with ward managers, other pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants regarding stock list content; review and update stock lists twice yearly. Assist in training supervision of pharmacy assistants delivering topping up services.
* Assist in assembling orders for stock items for wards and departments in accordance with guidelines.
* Assist in the ‘top-up’ of wards and departments as required.
* Assist in the management and dispensing of Clozapine in accordance with guidelines, including inpatient, outpatient, TTA and Clozapine prescriptions.
* Ensure goods are stored under appropriate conditions and stocks rotated.
* Evaluate returned pharmaceuticals for suitability to re-issue in line with guidelines.
* Maintain tidiness of workplace areas and ensure adequate consumables are available and topped up.
* Respond to incoming calls from patients, customers, visitors and staff as appropriate.
* Develop and participate in audits and surveys to measure quality and effectiveness of the Clozapine service.
* Participate in project work and in development and implementation of guidelines related to this service.
Person specification
Qualifications and experience
* NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services, BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent; registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Previous experience in a Hospital Pharmacy environment.
* Previous experience in Mental Health.
