Catch22 includes an alternative education provider for young people. Over 700 vulnerable young people with challenging behaviours are supported through independent alternative education schools or via tailored support programmes delivered in-school or off-site. Catch22 include Norfolk is an Ofsted-registered independent school providing full-time, alternative secondary education for young people who have been excluded from their previous school or pupil referral unit, or who require additional support beyond what is offered by mainstream settings.
Job Description
We are seeking a Teacher to instruct KS3 and KS4 students within our alternative education provision in Norwich. You will work with students who have emotional and behavioural difficulties, in small groups supported by a teaching assistant in each lesson. The role requires flexibility, sensitivity, patience, and resilience. You will teach a maximum of 8 students per class in a 1:4 ratio, enabling closer relationships through marking, assessment, and feedback. Many students work at a lower level due to missed education. Creativity and passion for engaging students are essential.
You will be part of a small, effective team where communication and professionalism are paramount. The role is challenging but rewarding. Your primary responsibilities include teaching, developing schemes of work and lesson plans, and building rapport with students and their families/carers. You will liaise with various agencies to address student issues and barriers to learning.
Main responsibilities include:
* Creating an inspiring learning environment with high expectations for achievement and progress.
* Planning and updating schemes of work to meet curriculum, inspection, and accreditation standards, considering guidance from the DfE and other bodies.
* Developing learning resources and pathways tailored to learner needs and requirements.
* Preparing lessons for off-site students for support staff to deliver.
* Supporting learners in reflecting on their progress and setting targets for improvement.
* Maintaining discipline and safeguarding students’ wellbeing.
* Building effective relationships with students and families/carers and liaising with outside agencies as needed.
* Completing administrative tasks such as exam entries, register taking, and invigilation.
Other duties include:
* Acting as a role model and championing Catch22 and the Education directorate’s values.
* Complying with policies on safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, data protection, and confidentiality.
* Engaging in personal and professional development and sharing best practices with colleagues.

Qualifications
Required qualifications, skills, and experience include:
* A recognized higher qualification with significant teaching experience and planning, with a willingness to work towards QTS.
* Experience working with young people with complex needs, including challenging behaviour and additional learning needs.
* Extensive behaviour management experience with students exhibiting extreme behaviour.
* Previous experience teaching KS3 and KS4.
* A clear understanding of the National Curriculum and its application.
* Knowledge of behavioural techniques and their practical application.
* Understanding of statutory requirements related to equal opportunities, discrimination, health and safety, safeguarding, and child protection.
* Knowledge of planning and assessment methods.
* Ability to adapt teaching, learning, and behaviour strategies to personalise learning and support all learners in achieving their potential.
Additional Information
Salary: Up to £32,240
Hours per week: 37 hours, term time plus 2 weeks
