The Endoscopy Cancer Pathway and Specialty Coordinator will provide dedicated administrative oversight of patients referred on suspected or confirmed cancer pathways within the Endoscopy and Gastroenterology services. The post holder will be responsible for proactively tracking patients through referral, diagnostics, endoscopy procedures and treatment planning to ensure compliance with national cancer waiting time standards, including the Faster Diagnosis Standard and 62-day referral to treatment targets. Working closely with the Cancer team, consultants and operational leads, the role will coordinate appointments, monitor pathway milestones, escalate delays and maintain accurate cancer tracking data to support timely patient care, service performance and regulatory reporting. The post holder will also support operational governance, MDT coordination and service improvement initiatives to ensure safe, efficient and high-quality management of cancer pathways.
Main duties of the job
Proactively track and coordinate patients on suspected and confirmed cancer pathways, ensuring timely progression through diagnostics, endoscopy, clinic review and treatment planning.
Monitor compliance with national cancer waiting time standards, including the 62-day RTT target and Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS), identifying delays and escalating risks where required.
Maintain accurate pathway information on cancer tracking systems and Trust PAS, ensuring milestones, diagnostics and outcomes are recorded correctly.
Coordinate appointments, investigations and follow-up across Endoscopy, Outpatients and Diagnostics to minimise delays and support pathway progression.
Work collaboratively with consultants, Cancer Services, the Colorectal FDS service, clinical teams and operational managers to support pathway management.
Attend and support MDT/MDM meetings where appropriate, ensuring pathway information and diagnostics are available for clinical decision making.
Validate and monitor cancer pathway data, supporting validation and reporting to ensure compliance with Trust and national requirements.
Identify pathway risks or operational pressures and escalate to the Patient Access Manager or Operational Manager where needed.
Support performance monitoring and improvement initiatives to enhance cancer pathway delivery and reduce delays.
Provide cross-cover for Band 3 and 4 administrative functions within Endoscopy and Gastroenterology to maintain pathway continuity.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Regularly reviewing/booking and validating from consultant’s f/u pending lists
2. Tracking and chasing of results/diagnostics/patient updates
3. Review future clinics to ensure utilised, highlighting any unutilised/capacity issues.
4. Support typing and booking of appointments.
5. Actively monitor and track patients on suspected and confirmed cancer pathways to ensure compliance with national cancer waiting time standards, including the 62-day referral to treatment target and Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS).
·Supporting Operational Manager/Patient Access Manager with completion of validation for the Directorate.
·Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on the Trust’s cancer tracking systems and patient administration systems, ensuring all pathway milestones, diagnostics and clinical outcomes are recorded correctly.
·Supporting both the Operational Manager/Patient Access Manager and admin teams as required.
·Support with completion of team appraisals.
·Take minutes at Gastroenterology Service meetings as required.
·Supporting Operational Manager/Patient Access Manager with preparing reports where necessary, analysing statistics i.e., weekly stats, KPIs, RTT.
·Supporting Operational Manager/Patient Access Manager with developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the team.
·Support service improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing cancer pathway performance, reducing delays and improving patient outcomes.
·Contribute to policy development within area.
·Coordinate diagnostic investigations, endoscopy procedures, outpatient appointments and follow-up actions to ensure patients progress through the cancer pathway without unnecessary delay.
·Produce or support reports relating to cancer pathway performance, highlighting trends, delays or operational pressures to operational and clinical leads.
·Ensure appropriate communication with patients and clinical teams regarding appointments, diagnostics and pathway progress, maintaining a patient-centred approach during cancer investigation and treatment.
·Attend and support relevant Multidisciplinary Team Meetings (MDTs/MDMs) where appropriate, ensuring patient information, diagnostics and pathway updates are available to support clinical decision making.
·Manage and prioritise own workload and be able to work independently.
·To have a detailed working knowledge of roles within the Department conducted by the admin teams to ensure continuity of service during staff absence.
·Ensure that all correspondence within the team is signed and presented within reasonable time limits to meet Trust agreed KPIs.
·Oversee departmental commitments, including arranging meetings with a variety of different NHS agencies, organisations, and medical representatives.
·Maintain an overview of the consultants’ timetable to ensure full utilisation of clinic capacity according to the medical teams’ availability. Escalate risk issues to Senior Management Team.
·To ensure that all electronic/paper filing is conducted by the team on a regular basis, ensuring these are tidy with all correspondence filed appropriately by the team.
·Manage new referrals and printing/distributing to the Team.
