About the Role
In this dynamic and varied position, youll work across the full design lifecycle, from early concept development and CAD modelling to prototype fabrication, testing, and preparing parts for manufacturing. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys both design and practical build work, and who thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and conceptualise mechanical designs for new and existing products.
* Create plastic component designs and progress them from 3D CAD through printed prototypes to production-ready parts.
* Produce functional prototypes for internal testing, demonstrations, and customer evaluations.
* Carry out testing, validation, and engineering analysis to support design decisions.
* Generate and manage detailed CAD models, technical drawings, and specifications.
* Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams including materials, electronics, and manufacturing.
* Liaise with suppliers and contractors to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability.
* Operate workshop equipment such as drills, sanders, laser cutters, and other fabrication tools.
* Build jigs, fixtures, and precision prototypes using hands-on mechanical skills.
* Maintain thorough design documentation and contribute to meeting project timelines and budgets.
Skills & Experience
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (preferred).
* 25 years experience in mechanical design, product development, or similar.
* Strong CAD proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
* Experience with prototyping, plastic part design, and 3D printing is highly desirable.
* Practical, hands-on fabrication skills with a problem-solving mindset.
* Strong communication, organisation, and teamwork abilities.
