As part of the South West Prison Healthcare contract awarded to Oxleas NHS Trust in 2022, we are expanding our recruitment and looking for compassionate, knowledgeable, and motivated Medicine Management Pharmacy Technicians to join our friendly team at HMP Bristol on bank .

Main duties of the job As a Pharmacy Technician, you will provide a medicines management service to patients within the prison, supported professionally by a prison service pharmacist. Your responsibilities include administering medicines against valid prescriptions, advising patients on medication use, and promoting healthy lifestyles to aid rehabilitation.
You will dispense prescriptions and stock items, supervise assistants in the dispensary, and handle stock control tasks such as stock top-ups, expiry date reviews, and storage management, reporting deficiencies to the pharmacist.

Job responsibilities Provide medicines management services weekly, supported by a pharmacist
Oversee ordering and supply of repeat prescriptions
Supervise dispensary assistants
Dispense prescriptions and stock items
Work towards accreditation as a checking technician and/or medicines administration
Maintain high standards and adhere to SOPs in all tasks
Manage own workload effectively
Conduct weekly clinical visits to prisons, including stock checks, expiry reviews, and providing advice on medication use
Promote healthy lifestyles among offenders
Administer medicines on house blocks as prescribed
Engage in CPD and self-development
Participate in audits and adhere to prison procedures
Perform additional tasks as directed by the Lead Pharmacist
Oxleas Prison Services Ltd is a subsidiary of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, providing pharmacy services to various prisons. Due to recent contracts, we are establishing new posts to extend our innovative clinical practices and research.
Important information:
All applicants must be willing to undergo National Security Vetting as part of pre-employment checks.
You will need to provide:
Proof of right to work
Proof of ID (including a photographic ID)
Proof of address
For non-UK passport holders: valid right-to-work documentation and a Home Office Share code
Five years of address history; if less than five years, a police certificate from previous residencies
UK passport holders who have lived abroad over six months in the last three years need a police check from those countries

Person Specification Education/Qualifications NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent
Registration with GPhC as a pharmacy technician
Evidence of CPD
Working towards Accredited Checking or MM Technician Certificate
Experience At least 2 years' pharmacy experience
Previous prison or mental health pharmacy experience preferred
Skills and Abilities Knowledge of SOPs
Proficiency with pharmacy management software and Microsoft Office
Understanding of mental health and substance misuse treatments
Problem-solving skills and initiative
Disclosure and Barring Service Check This role requires a DBS check due to working in a secure environment, and applicants must declare any criminal convictions as per the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (Exceptions Order) 1975.
