Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Resident Care or designate at Mon Sheong Scarborough Long Term Care Centre, the Personal Support Worker (Night Shift) is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to residents, addressing their physical, psychological, emotional, cultural, spiritual, and social needs. This role is part of CUPE.
Main Duties
1. Respect and uphold the Residents’ Bill of Rights, dignity, and privacy.
2. Assist residents with activities of daily living and supervise as needed.
3. Monitor for changes in emotional, social, behavioral, and physical patterns and report accordingly.
4. Interact one-on-one with residents, overcoming language barriers and utilizing communication aids.
5. Provide oral, dental, skin, nail, and foot care to promote comfort and health.
6. Support residents' bedtime routines and personal grooming.
7. Assist with mobility aids and adaptive devices.
8. Support residents' elimination habits and assist with feeding, including texture-modified diets.
9. Offer cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual support.
10. Follow infection control policies, including universal precautions and isolation techniques.
11. Implement emergency procedures when necessary.
12. Collect and monitor resident information.
13. Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Secondary School Diploma and a Personal Support Worker Certificate, obtained through a program meeting Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities requirements, or enrolled in nursing or practical nursing programs with relevant skills.
* Valid CPR and First Aid certificates.
* At least one year of experience in a long-term care facility.
* Medical certificate of good physical and mental health.
* Patience, kindness, compassion, and creativity in working with elderly residents.
* Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.
* Proficiency in English; bilingual in Chinese preferred.
